50 specialist growers in the one locationThe Gardening and Rare plants Expo is a unique opportunity for gardeners of all ages and abilities to enjoy a weekend discovering new, rare and unusual plants. It offers the chance to learn directly from the growers, the experts in their fields. Some of Australia’s leading horticulturalists. All this under an hour down the garden path from Melbourne.

Specialist growers and nurserymen offer a stunning collection of new, rare and unusual plants together with your old favourites. With over fifty stall holders there is something for everyone – and this weekend is a must for collectors. Featured are; Dry Garden plants, Orchids, Cliva, Ferns, Roses, Spring Bulbs, Perennials, Annuals, Bonsai, Vegetables, Seeds, Herbs, Trees, Carnivorous plants, Natives, Water plants and more.

Jane EdmansonFree informative and instructional talks run throughout the weekend, aimed at both the budding gardener and the expert green thumb. The speaker program offers experience, knowledge and inspiration from specialists in their field. Garden expert and personality Stephen Ryan will compere the weekend, adding his informative and fun approach to the talks. Key note speaker is Jane Edmanson who will speak on both days. There is a free information desk where you can have all your plant problems solved and gardening questions answered by the Ferny Creek Horticultural Society

Each year we like to make improvements to ensure the event remains appealing. 2010 will see the continuation of the large Australian Tuberous Begonia display. The Begonias are bred in South Australia and grown in Victoria, the blooms in many cases measure in excess of 25cm across. Entry to the display is included in the general admission price.

Potting clinic for childrenDuring March the gardens are filled with Roses and Liliums as well as a variety of unusual and rare perennials, it is a place of inspiration. Musical entertainment from Cheek to Cheek will enhance the magnificent surrounds of the Tesselaar Gardens. A range of locally made food and refreshments will be made available or you are welcome to bring a picnic. Dogs on leads are welcome. You can even leave your plants at the plant Crèche with the local Girl Guides who will deliver your plants to the car for a gold coin donation.

The delightful Dandenong Ranges Yarra Valley region provides a stunning backdrop for this unmissable event. This area is home to a number of magnificent gardens to visit over the weekend.
